PORTLAND — The Portland Symphony Orchestra presents the second in its yearlong series of KinderKonzerts. This group is focused on an introduction to the strings instruments. “Four Seasons” begins Thursday, Jan. 31 at Crooker Theater, Brunswick High School.

The PSO Kinderkonzerts will also be at Fryeburg Academy’s Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center in Fryeburg from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8. Additional performances will take place through early March at various locations.

Inspired by and incorporating Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” the KinderKonzert will explore the sounds of weather – plucking violin strings to sound like gentle rain while the deep sounds of the double bass may conjure up a thunderstorm. The PSO String quintet will demonstrate how different kinds of weather can be recreated in music.

KinderKonzerts are designed to introduce children to live symphonic music through fun and interactive programs with PSO musicians. The series allows children to explore the different families of orchestral instruments, including brass, strings, woodwinds and percussion.

The concerts are 35 to 40 minutes in length and geared toward children ages 3 to 7. Tickets are priced at $4 per person.
