WINTHROP/PORTLAND — St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Winthrop will host a region-wide Ash Wednesday service at 6 p.m. Feb. 13. The Rt. Rev. Stephen Lane, Bishop of Maine will be the celebrant at this special area event to which all are welcomed. A free-will offering at the service will benefit the Bread of Life Ministries.

Recently relocated from Readfield to Winthrop, St. Andrew’s is blessed to share its location with the Friends Church in Winthrop. The combined faith communities are located at 219 Winthrop Center Road, one mile south of Route 202 on Route 135.

Four different Episcopal parishes are sponsoring the event; they include St. Mark’s and St. Barnabas  of Augusta, St. Matthew’s of Hallowell and St. Andrew’s of Winthrop who will participate in this celebration, which begins the season known as Lent, marking the 40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness before his ministry, culminating in the celebration of Easter.

Traditionally, the Lenten Season is a time for honest individual self-evaluation and renewal.
