ORONO — The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team completed a weekend sweep of No. 3 Boston College on Saturday night with a 3-1 win over the Eagles.
Jon Swavely  scored a pair of goals in the win for the Black Bears, while Martin Ouellette made 24 saves.
The Black Bears (7-14-4)  took a 1-0 lead at 18:43 of the first period. A Boston College defender rimmed the puck behind the Maine goal  and Will Merchant was able to gain control. He skated the puck up the length of the ice before passing to Swavely near the faceoff circle. Swavely fired a shot past Boston College goalie Brian Billett.
Maine extended its lead to 2-0 at 2:48 of the third period. Ryan Lomberg picked up the puck in the offensive zone and found Devin Shore in the neutral zone. Shore skated in and fired a shot on Billett, who made the initial save. Connor Leen tailed the play and fired the puck past Billett, who was out of position after making the initial save.
Swavely extended Maine’s lead to 3-0 late in the third period. Mark Nemec found Merchant who had the initial shot. Billett made the save on Merchant, but Jon Swavely collected the rebound and fired it into the net for his second goal of the game.
BC (14-7-2) got on the board at 19:51 of the third period with a goal by Patrick Brown.
Maine outshot Boston College 29-25 in the game. The Black Bears were 0-for-6 on the power play, while Boston College was scoreless in three chances.
