RUMFORD — Lori Grassette and Bill Hoyt, referred to as “SpoonS,” join Rick Harford to play Kaleidoscope, Rumford’s once a month party for the arts. Grassette recreates classic Americana favorites with a touch of bluegrass and jazz utilizing a variety of instruments including spoons, bones, mandolin, banjo, guitar and vocals. Hoyt keeps the backbeat with washboard and Cajon and is featured on the harmonica and vocals. They will be joined and accompanied by Harford who builds and plays a variety of unique instruments including cigar box banjos and bed pan guitars. At least 50 percent of his instruments are handcrafted with recycled materials. Harford also performs on a cookie tins-wash tub bass, a wine box and a two-string weed wacker bass. These artists perform with energy that will be sure to have your foot stompin’ and your head nodding.

Dennis Labbe will perform amazing feats of mind magic. Labbe will delve into the power of the mind with several experiments. He is ready to expand his performing skills in this specialized art.

Magician Michael Smilek will take the stage with a set of magic classics. He is looking forward to adding his subtle bits of humor and show items he’s performed for years as well as new items. Lorna Smilek will recite several original poems as part of the evening’s entertainment.

The evening is hosted by Scot Grassette. Visual artists include Elizabeth Murphy, Chris Wing, Grace McKivergan and Kaylee Martin.

Kaleidoscope offers unique performances on stage, and a variety of artists creating visual works on display. It is held from 7 to 10 p.m. on the first Friday of each month at 49 Franklin in The Mystic Theater. Access by the upper rear parking lot. There will be a cash bar, admission is free but tips for the artists are encouraged and appreciated.
