WINSLOW — Despite knocking down 15 3-pointers, Leavitt still came up short when Trevor Lovely threw in a half-court, game-winning 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds on the clock to give Winslow a stunning 73-70 victory over the stubborn Hornets in a boys’ basketball game Thursday night.
Lovely also scored 17 points, helping the Black Raiders (12-3) build a 42-32 lead at halftime.
Mike Petrovic scored 15 points.
Leavitt (5-10) exploded with 38 points in the second half and Andrew Middleton dropped in 26 points and made good on seven 3-pointers. Isaiah Calder scored 16 points and dropped in five 3-pointers.
The Black Raiders also used the long-range stuff, dropping in nine 3-pointers for the evening.
Dirigo 70, Monmouth 40
MONMOUTH — Travis Frost scored 18 points and Riley Robinson dropped in another 16 as Dirigo (15-1) dismissed Monmouth, 70-40, in a boys’ basketball game Thursday.
The Cougars took control early, building a 36-19 halftime lead.
Monmouth’s (6-10) Drew McFaren scored 15 points.
St. Dom’s 41, Telstar 29
BETHEL — Zak Johnson scored all of his 11 points in the second half as St. Dom’s sidestepped Monmouth Academy with a 41-29 victory in a boys’ basketball game Thursday.
It was a tight first half, with the Saints coming out on top 19-15 at halftime.
For Telstar (1-15), Mike DelDuca deposited 13 points.
Spruce Mountain 66, Lisbon 46
JAY — Spruce Mountain used a 22-8 third-quarter run to pull away from Lisbon and hustled to record a 66-46 victory in MVC boys’ action Thursday.
Scottie Hall led the Phoenix (11-5) with 14 points, while Peter Theriault chipped in with 13. Nate Hamblin also contributed with nine points in a well-balanced attack.
The struggling Greyhounds (3-13) were paced by Brad Groh with a solid 12-point effort, while Tucker Brannon and Nick Collins each added nine.
Oak Hill 49, Carrabec 33
WALES — Oak Hill erupted for 22 points in the third frame and cruised home to a 49-33 win over Carrabec in a late-season KVAC boys’ tilt Thursday.
Parker Asselin led the Raiders (6-10) with 13 points, while Trevor Samson and Derek Gamage each chipped in with eight.
The winless Cobras (0-16) were paced by William Crawford and Richard Layton with seven points apiece.
Buckfield 78, Rangeley 14
BUCKFIELD — Buckfield jumped out to a commanding14-point advantage in the first quarter before hustling to a 78-14 romp over Rangeley in a boys’ matchup Thursday. Tyler Goyette led the Bucks (8-8) with 24 points, while Jared Eastman tallied 18 and Micah Madore added 11.
The Lakers (2-14) were paced by AJ Elmes with a six-point effort.
Hockey
St. Dom’s 4, Cheverus 1
PORTLAND — Cam Stewart, Kyle Holtet, Caleb Labrie and Calvin Stewart each scored a goal as St. Dom’s brushed off Cheverus with a 4-1 victory in a hockey game at Portland Ice Arena on Thursday.
The Saints (8-3-1) punched in a pair of goal in the third period to put the game out of reach from the Stags (8-3).
Chase Hainey earned apair of assists in the game.
