ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Roland C. Berry, 85, of Ormond Beach, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 19, at his home.

Roland was born June 22, 1927, in Mexico, the youngest son of Merle and Winnie (Carver) Berry. A graduate of Mexico High School, Roland went on to work as a salesman for many years with Cushman Baking Co. After leaving Cushman, he became the buildings, grounds and transportation supervisor for Maine School Administrative District No. 43.

He was also a volunteer firefighter for the town of Mexico for 42 years, retiring as chief in 1990. In 2001, he and his wife, Norma, relocated to Florida, and settled in the Bear Creek community of Ormand Beach. Roland dearly loved his children and grandchildren and followed their achievements with great pride.

He was an avid bowler and horseshoe player. His greatest passion, however, was fly fishing, particular at his beloved Four Ponds in Maine. He was most content when he was sitting in a small boat on that Maine lake, just before sunset, his self-made fly pole in hand, anticipating the rise of that illusive native trout.

Roland leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Norma (Hickey) Berry of Ormand Beach; son, Mark and his wife, Shirley, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; daughter, Robin and her husband, Michael Morrison, of Dixfield; grandchildren, Tanya Vaughn, Michelle and Megan Morrison and Matthew and Stephanie Berry; one stepgrandson, Brian Wheeler; two great-grandchildren, Logan Vaughn and Kiley Rae Berry; his brother, E. Daile Berry and his wife, Mary, of Sun City, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Milledge) Berry in 1970.
