FARMINGTON — Three free ski and board events this month start Friday night at Titcomb Mountain.

Events also are planned for Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford and Spruce Mountain Ski Slope in Jay.

Franklin Savings Bank and Western Mountain Financial Services are sponsoring them to promote healthy winter outdoor activities.

“We love to see families come to these free events. Oftentimes, the perceived cost of skiing or snowboarding prevents folks from giving it a try. The free events make it possible for a family to have a fun, healthy outing on the slopes,” Tim Thompson, senior vice president and chief financial officer at Franklin Savings Bank, said.

The Franklin Savings Bank & Western Mountain Financial Services events are:

* Friday, Feb. 8, 4 to 8 p.m. at Titcomb Mountain, West Farmington. Rentals for $5 will be available on a first come, first served basis.

* Thursday, Feb. 14, 4 to 9 p.m. at Black Mountain of Maine, Rumford. Free tubing is also available. Ski and board rentals are available for $15. Rental quantities are limited.

* Saturday, Feb., 16, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Spruce Mountain Ski Slope, Jay.  The Healthy Community Coalition is co-sponsoring this event to make it a full day of skiing and other activities. Maine Winter Sports will make 70 pairs of cross-country skis and about 20 pairs of snowshoes available free. Quantities are limited. First come, first served.
