PORTLAND — Coastal residents of Maine are being told to brace for the possibility of significant flooding as a major winter storm bears down on New England.
The National Weather Service says the storm surge will come on top of astronomically high tides. The tides could reach 11-13 feet about 10 a.m. Saturday. Forecasters say the result could be moderate to possibly major flooding and beach erosion, especially along the southern Maine coast.
Offshore seas could reach 25-30 feet.
A coastal flood warning will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday from the mid-coast of Maine to the New Hampshire seacoast.
