JAY — Two members of the Jay Police Department were presented with awards recently.

Chief Larry White named officer Nicholas Gulliver Officer of the Year for 2012. According to a department statement, Gulliver is “very well liked by his peers and the community. He always gives 100 percent when working and displays a positive attitude toward his job and others. He is very analytical in his investigations and is always willing to assist his fellow officers. He is clearly a team player. He encompasses the true meaning of community policing.”

Also, Detective Richard Caton was presented the Professionalism Award for 2012. “He has done an outstanding job with criminal investigations and has cleared many felony cases this past year,” according to the department.

“Detective Caton projects energy and enthusiasm when at work. He continuously seeks to broaden his professional skills. Detective Caton is respected by his peers and supervisors. At times, he assists with the operations of the department if the chief is not available. He is a real asset to the department, and his demeanor generates positive attitudes within the department.”
