RUMFORD — Hector J. Dayon, 78, of Rumford, went to Heaven on Feb. 6, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 8, 1934, in Mexico, to Wilfred and Emelia Richard Dayon. He received his education in Mexico.
In December 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years. After returning from serving his country, he met and later married Doris (Arsenault) Dayon on April 18, 1959.
He was a papermaker for 42 years and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Webb River Sportsman Club and the American Legion.
For many years, he and his family vacationed in Prince Edward Island, which was one of his favorite places. His greatest joy in life was supporting his sons in their sporting activities. Hector was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Jeffrey and wife, Lisa, Keith and Shawn and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan and wife, Sara, Kera, Candice and AJ; great-granddaughter, Layla; and siblings, Dorothy Garrett, Vernice Collette, Robert Dayon, Shirley Dunn and Ronald Dayon.
He was predeceased by his parents.
