Fortin

LEWISTON — Roger and Ludgarde Fortin of Lewiston, celebrated 60 years of marriage on Nov. 8. The couple was married at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus on Nov. 8, 1952.

Mr. Fortin, a hard-working man since the young age of 12, provided for the family for more than 50 years. He spent 22 years at Seltzer and Rydholm Inc., delivering Pepsi Cola to several small businesses throughout the state. Following his career at Seltzer and Rydholm, he also worked as a press operator at Pioneer Plastics for 17 years. He then dedicated 13 years to Twenty-Four Old Lisbon Road, an extended care facility for the disabled. During his employment there, the couple began collecting donations from local businesses to form a charity fund for the residents. The fund is used to purchase Christmas gifts and much needed items for the residents. The charity fundraiser has been a great success and has since been taken over by the staff at the extended care facility. The funds continue to benefit the residents each year.

Mrs. Fortin, a dedicated wife and mother, began working at a local shoe shop shortly after the two were married, only to realize her time would be best spent at home raising their five children. She devoted all of her time and love to the family, managing all the responsibilities that come with caring for a husband, home and children. As the children grew older, she also spent several years caring for their grandchildren.

Today, the couple have 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way. They continue to be a great influence on their forever growing family. Their marriage is an inspiration to anyone who has the pleasure of knowing them. The family dedicated a song by Lee Brice entitled “Love Like Crazy,” as it describes much of what it means to be the amazing two people they truly are.
