La Leche League meeting Feb. 13

AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are all invited to a La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

This month’s discussion will focus on “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings,” which will focus on preparing for nursing baby at birth, establishing and maintaining breastfeeding and adjusting to family life with a new baby.

Pregnancy is an ideal time to begin attending meetings, and mothers find continued attendance provides support throughout their breastfeeding experience. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For more information or breastfeeding help, call the La Leche leader at 782-6645.

WLU meeting: ‘Arrows, Eros’

AUBURN — The Woman’s Literary Union will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. John Henderson will speak on “Arrows or Eros: The History of Love and Valentine’s Day.”

Henderson will relate the pre-Christian roots of Valentine’s Day, who Valentine is said to have been and symbols and traditions associated with the day.

Henderson conducts historical research, writing, education and art as Hometown History Works – Memories Made Manifest. He is a member of the Androscoggin Historical Society and Maine Historical Society.

Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome.

Guys That Give bachelor auction

AUBURN — The Second Chances Foundation is hosting its second Guys That Give bachelor auction at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Fireside Inn, just in time for the Valentine’s Day weekend.

This is a fun-filled, lighthearted event that includes some of the areas best bachelors, music and dancing with VJ Pulse, silent auction items, cash bar and food as well as pictures to capture the night’s fun by Shauna Lee photography.

Tickets are $15 and all proceeds go to getting Aimee Driscoll, a local mother with cystic fibrosis, a much-needed double lung transplant.

Disabled American Veterans meeting

LEWISTON — Disabled American Veterans will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Lewiston Armory. The group meets the third Tuesday of each month.
