CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Elizabeth B. “Betty” Smith, of Norway, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31.

She was born in Chisholm (Jay), the daughter of the late Ascenzo and Crocifissa Di Giacomo Benedetto, and graduated from Jay High School. She married Gordon E. Smith on Sept. 24, 1951.

She was employed in the Norway Town Office. She was very active in the community and was a supporter of many charitable organizations, including Stephens Memorial Hospital and the Norway Library, and was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed taking long walks and playing bridge. She touched many lives with her kindness and loved to give away her homemade peanut butter balls. She enjoyed spending time with her large extended family and especially her grandsons.

She is survived by her son, Michael and his wife, Beth, of Bethlehem, Pa.; three grandsons, Benjamin, Matthew and William, all of Bethlehem. She is also survived by her brother, Arthur Benedetto of Chisholm; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Gordon, in 2011. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Querino, Albert and Joseph; and her sisters, Grace LaPointe, Mena Hynds, Angela Musto, Jennie Frechette and Margaret Frechette.
