PITTSFIELD — Olivia C. Fernandes, 88, died Feb. 7, at the Pittsfield hospital.
She was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Dexter, a daughter of Lawson and Clara (Arsenault) Reeves.
Olivia studied at Wilton Academy and graduated from Winthrop High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and a master’s degree from Boston University. She also studied at Northeastern University and the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York.
She taught music privately and in public schools in Maine and New Hampshire. She had also been employed by the New England News Clip Agency of Framingham, Mass.
While living in Massachusetts, Olivia met Manuel Fernandes at the Brighton Evangelical Church, where they were members. After their marriage on May 28, 1994, in Corinna, she assisted him in his nursing home ministry in Maine. Both had also attended classes at the University of Maine at Orono, preparing them for their joint field.
They were active members of the Corinna United Methodist Church. They were also involved in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Bangor and were also members of the Tres Dias movement. Olivia was a member of United Methodist Women of Maine.
She is survived by two cousins; a niece; four nephews; and one grand-nephew. She is also survived by dear friends, Pearl and Bernice Griffin of West Newbury, Mass.; and her cat, Penelope.
She was predeceased by her husband, Manny, on May 25, 2011; as well as two infant brothers.
