SCARBOROUGH — Christine Ann Dorsey, 59, of Scarborough, died Feb. 10, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, with her family and friends.
Born in Lewiston on March 20, 1953, she was the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Dubuc) Sansoucy. She was a 1971 graduate of Edward Little High School, Auburn, and a 1975 graduate of Trinity College in Burlington, Vt., receiving a degree in special education and human services.
Chris met her husband, Stephen M. Dorsey, at a Midnight Mass service in Winooski, Vt. They were married at St. Phillip’s Church in Auburn on Aug. 17, 1974.
While raising her daughter in Auburn, Chris was an avid community volunteer, serving organizations such as the Lewiston YWCA, Abused Women’s Advocacy Center and St. Joseph’s Nursery and Parochial Schools.
More recently, Chris worked as a social worker for the Child Health Center in Norway and Auburn. For many years, she worked with pregnant and parenting teens and later served as the coordinator for the Central Maine Developmental Evaluation Clinic, serving children ages zero to five.
In 2005, she relocated to Scarborough with her husband. She refocused her energy to community service and, along with a dear friend, volunteered at Dress for Success, a program designed to assist women through the interview process while re-entering the workforce.
Advocating for social causes, helping others, reading, entertaining friends and family were among her passions. Always full of vigor she was a great source of strength for many friends and family. She loved the beach and skiing.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Stephen Michael Dorsey of Scarborough; beloved daughter, Morgan Elizabeth Dorsey of South Portland; and many beloved nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
