The one and one-half story house owned and occupied by Charles O. Granquist at 110 Lake Auburn avenue was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. Only a few pieces of furniture were saved. Mr. Granquist places his loss at $2500. He carried $1300 insurance. The fire started in the ell of the house around 3 o’clock from an unknown cause. Owing to the strong wind, the whole house was soon in flames. The firemen on their arrival found that the hydrant at the corner of Coburn street and Lake Auburn avenue was frozen.

The Lewiston Board of Public Works gave its approval last night to a recommendation that signs be set up at various places throughout the city to show out-of-town people the way to the city building. It was also voted that the upper part of Roland Avenue would be plowed for the remainder of the winter. Although the upper section of the street has not been officially accepted by the city, 250 feet were accepted earlier.

By the close of business today, Val’s Flower Boutique will have delivered between 600 and 800 floral arrangements since the orders began pouring in on Monday and Bill Mason helped. For 31 years, Mason drove an oil truck. He retired in 1973 and for the past 12 years he has been driving flower deliveries for Val’s. The biggest difference, says the 74-year-old Auburn resident, is the odor. “The flowers smell a lot better than the petroleum products,” he quipped,” and it’s much lighter work.
