BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust and Western Maine Senior College teamed up to offer a guided snowshoe trek Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Sunday River Valley.

As part of the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, naturalist Rick Churchill will lead the gentle walk and share observations of the winter landscape interspersed with his wit, according to a Monday news report.

Participants are asked to meet at 10 a.m. at the Sunday River Inn in Newry. Parking is across the street from the inn, where snowshoes can be rented.

Churchill is a horticulture consultant, and founder and chairman of Southern Maine Community College’s horticulture program. He has served as associate editor for People, Places & Plants and is adjunct professor with The Landscape Institute, according to the report.

His many years of college teaching, outdoor adventure travel and horticultural and arboricultural consulting allow him to bring a broad range of experiences to his audiences.

The trust will hold a child-friendly snowshoe adventure starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, on Maggie’s Trails. Participants are to meet at the entrance to Maggie’s Nature Park on the Greenwood Road in Greenwood for a gentle snowshoe hike. Snowshoes and poles are needed. Participants are asked to bring water, but snacks will be provided.
