Speaker to talk on Valentine history
AUBURN — The Woman’s Literary Union will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. John Henderson will speak on “Arrows or Eros: The History of Love and Valentine’s Day.”
Henderson will relate the pre-Christian roots of Valentine’s Day, who Valentine is said to have been, and symbols and traditions associated with the day.
Henderson conducts historical research, writing, education and art as Hometown History Works – Memories Made Manifest. He is a member of the Androscoggin Historical Society and Maine Historical Society.
Members are asked to bring donations of food, blankets, towels, toys or cash to be given to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in February.
Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome.
In case of inclement weather that causes a parking ban, the meeting will be canceled.
Farmers’ market at Auburn library
AUBURN — The fourth annual APL Farmers’ Market will feature 20 vendors, live music by the Peterson Project, crafts for kids and free chair massages from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Auburn Public Library.
Garden fresh produce plus soup, meats, bread, pickles, jams, soaps and lotions will be offered by event vendors ranging from Bert’s Awesome Stuff to Willowpond Farm. Valley View Farm will reprise its baby goats. The event will also feature information on CSAs.
Patient services agent training set
TURNER — SAD 52 Adult & Community Education announces another patient services agent training session to be held March 4 to 21. Classes will be held at Greene Central School from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The 48-hour occupational training program will be taught by industry trainers. Topics will include medical terminology, HIPAA compliance, high impact customer service and working in a goal-driven environment.
The program is free to eligible participants. To determine eligibility for financial assistance Maine Relay 711, call the Lewiston Career Center at 753-9000 or Augusta Career Center at 624-5120.
