1956 – 2013

DURHAM — Debra Emerson, 56, died on Feb. 18, in her home surrounded by family. 

She was born Dec. 23, 1956, in Montague City, Mass., a daughter of Joseph Welcome and Thelma Shaw. Her childhood was spent in Massachusetts until her family moved to Maine. She graduated from Freeport High School, Class of 1975.

Debra married Laurence Emerson in Durham on Sept. 24, 1975. She was a loving wife and mother.

She had worked several years at Eastland Shoe in Freeport before its closing and was most recently employed at the Freeport Nursing Home in Freeport.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of Durham; a son, Zachary Emerson and his wife, Shannon, of Sabattus; a daughter, Heather Emerson-Mains of Durham; two brothers, Thomas Welcome of Durham and Jeffrey Welcome of Starks; a sister, Carol Wickline of Durham; her mother, Thelma Marston and her husband, Earl, of Texas; five grandchildren, Caleb, Kyleigh, Chelsea, Jonathon and Jordon.
