LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen voted Tuesday to have Bill Webster build an office between the two compactors at the Transfer Station and enclose the bays where the universal waste is stored.

Public Works foreman Bill Nichols presented selectmen with three estimates for the projects.

Selectmen gave Nichols the authority in December 2012 to get estimates from local contractors by posting requests on a bulletin board at the transfer station, rather than the town paying for ads for bids.

Webster of Livermore Falls estimated $11,800 to build the office, which would put the controls to the compactors under cover, and $5,700 to put up a wall, install garage doors for the universal waste and to furnish the bays with electricity.

Frazier Construction of Livermore Falls submitted estimates of $16,750 for the office and $9,400 to enclose the universal waste storage area.

Chretien Construction of Livermore submitted estimates of $11,995 for the office and $6,879 for the universal waste area.

Voters raised $8,000 in the current budget for the universal waste area, Nichols said.

The money for the office will come out of the $40,000 carryover, he said.

The office had been in the initial design for the compactor area, but it was decided in 2009 that it could be left out for the time being.

By building the office between the compactors, it will not only protect the controls, but also allow the station attendant to keep a better eye on what is going on.

The current office is a portable trailer and is set away from the compactors.

Nichols said that last week someone put ashes in the trash compactor and it caught fire. The Fire Department was called.
