LEWISTON — Lewiston/Auburn is now home to Maine’s newest social media meetup group. The Lewiston-Auburn Social Media Meetup’s inaugural mixer is Monday, March 4. It’s the first group of its kind in the greater L/A area.

Lewiston-Auburn Social Media Meetup, started by Larry Gilbert Jr., is a once a month social event held at a local restaurant/bar downtown. It’s designed to cultivate face to face conversations with friends on Facebook as well as to meet new friends and to share ideas on what makes Lewiston/Auburn a great place to live, work and socialize.

Gilbert said of starting the group, “Portland is home to over a half-dozen different social media based gatherings, even Bangor has one.” He continued, “Lewiston/Auburn is home to many creative and innovative people. The twin cities are home to the L/A Art Walk each month, and the annual L/A Film Festival, both of which have met with success. This group will only add to the vibrant community that this area has cultivated.”

Gilbert continued, “Having attended several of the Portland based events and having seen that there are a lot of young tech-savvy types right here in our community that want to engage, it was only a natural fit to start this here.”

The first Lewiston/Auburn Social Media Meetup will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 4, at DaVinci’s Eatery, 150 Mill St. All mixers are free and open to the public, 21-plus only.
