1942 – 2013

FARMINGTON — Sharon Lee Cram, 70, passed away peacefully Feb. 20 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington.

She was born Sept. 5, 1942, in Waterbury, Conn., to Elwin, Jr. and Phyllis (Pratt) Cram. She attended Wilton schools and graduated from Wilton Academy in 1960. In 1964, she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Farmington State Teachers’ College. In 1984 she received her master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Maine.

After 45 years of teaching, Sharon retired in June 2009. She taught second grade at Wilton Primary School and sixth grade at Wilton Central School, Wilton Academy and Academy Hill School. Sharon also served two years as the MSAD 9/UMF sophomore practicum supervisor. Sharon was loved and respected by every student she touched.

Sharon was a proud member of many professional organizations including Sandy River EA, Maine EA, NEA and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for Women Educators, XI Chapter of Alpha Psi State of Maine. She was also an Alpha Psi State scholarship recipient. Sharon was a valued member of the Franklin County Retired Teachers Association.

Sharon was an active volunteer with service as an FMH Auxiliary member and received a Governor’s Service Award three times for volunteer service at the hospital. She was the UMF Alumni Assoc. president and chair of the Alumni Scholarship Committee. Sharon was also involved with the Wilton Scholarship Committee.

Sharon enjoyed summers at Maine Music Camp and playing the drums in the Old Crow Indian Band. She was a trip leader and assistant camp director at Wavus Girls’ Camp in Jefferson. For over 20 years, Sharon was the dining room manager at Kawanhee Inn in Weld.

Collecting antique buttons was a favorite hobby. Sharon belonged to Tri-County Button Club in Belfast, the Maine State Button Society and the National Button Society. Sharon also loved cats and dining with friends. She leaves behind an entire community who will cherish her memory and service.
