Update: Burns was found Tuesday night in Massachusetts.

OXFORD —  Police are searching for a 24-year-old man who was last seen Saturday night, Feb. 23, walking toward downtown Mechanic Falls after crashing his vehicle on Robinson Hill Road in Oxford, according to Oxford Police Lieutenant Michael Ward.

“He was in an accident and no one has seen him since,” Ward said.

Gene Stanley Burns, Jr., 24, of Oxford, was driving toward Mechanic Falls on Saturday night when his vehicle, a black, 2004 Saturn Ion, left the road, went through a snowbank and crashed into some trees, Ward said.

“It was damaged on the front end,” he said. “When Sergeant (Rickie) Jack got there, nobody was there. The vehicle was locked up.”

Ward said police received the call around 7:30 p.m.

Burns is described as white, 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with dark brown hair and glasses, Ward said.

He was last seen wearing a black Columbia winter jacket with a white stripe on the back and arms, blue cargo jeans, black boots, a blue-and-black striped shirt and a black-and-white striped hoodie, according to Ward.

Ward said he was told by a witness that Burns was last seen walking toward Mechanic Falls.

“We figured that he would go home and then just call us,” Ward said.

“We tried to call him. He didn’t go home,” Ward said.

According to Ward, as of Tuesday, Oxford police had still not heard from him, nor had any of his friends or family members.

“He hasn’t showed up to work,” Ward said. He said police searched the surrounding wooded areas of the accident but did not find any foot tracks.

Ward said, according to Burns’ bank account, he has not done any financial transactions since the accident.

“We don’t know where he went,” Ward said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department at 207-743-4259.
