AUBURN — Robert E. Jordan, 80, of Auburn, died Monday, Feb. 25, at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Littleton, N.H., Sept. 30, 1932, the son of Robert E. and Marion (Ouellette) Jordan. He was educated in Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1950. He also participated in various correspondence courses at Michigan State, as well as a summer course at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburg, Pa. He was a graduate of The Dale Carnegie Sales Course.

Robert married the love of his life, Arlene “Bobby” Westleigh, June 1, 1951, and together they started raising their four children. He worked for 15 years in the printing Industry, at Twin City Printery, Hoods Mailing & Printing, and Graphics Illustrated in Florida. He then went on to work as director of sales at Sanborn’s Motor Express for 20 years. After he retired in 1988, he started working at Mardens as a manager until 1997.

Robert was a member The Auburn Methodist Church for more than 60 years, serving in various capacities, including chairman of Official Board, Pastoral Relations, building committee and choir. He was also a member of Tranquil Lodge 29 for more than 50 years.

Robert was an avid sports guy playing semi-pro baseball and basketball for Bates Manufacturing teams in the early 1950s. He also enjoyed playing golf, he was a longtime member of Martindale Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors and won the Club Championship in 1971. He was also now a member of Foxridge Golf Club. He was inducted into the Lewiston & Auburn Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. In his later years, he was introduced to Bass fishing and this became a favorite past time for him.

He is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Pelletier and husband, Robert, of Auburn and Julie Gagne and her husband, Richard, of Auburn; two sons, Steven Jordan and his wife, Diane, of Minot and Timothy Jordan and wife, Susan, of Turner; four granddaughters, Heather Benoit, Robin Allen and husband, Andrew, Mary Jane Pelletier and Martina Donnell and husband, Scott; four grandsons, R. Eric Jordan and wife, Kelly. N. Curtis Jordan, Brett Jordan and Colton Jordan; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Arlene “Bobby” Jordan; and his parents, Robert Jordan and Marion Robinson.
