It is important that Peru citizens know why I circulated recall petitions for Selectmen Dick Powell and Ed Ferland. Ferland consistently abstained on voting on many things until Powell became a selectman. Now Ferland always looks to Powell for direction on how to vote. He seems unable to make a decision himself.
Ferland continues to make what I think are unfounded accusations and allegations of wrongdoing by other board members.
Selectmen take the oath to perform the job to the best of their abilities and work in the best interests of the town. Powell and Ferland were aware of the lawsuit against the town before it was served.
They voted to not respond to the lawsuit after Selectman Kathy Hussey got legal counsel (at the recommendation of the town’s attorney).
Hussey is requesting that the town reimburse her legal fees. The town’s attorney has said that there is a good chance of her prevailing, yet these two selectmen vote to do otherwise.
A handful of vindictive, self-serving people have thrown the town into chaos for no good reason. The only people gaining in the whole situation are the attorneys involved, due to Powell’s and Ferland’s inability to work in the best interest of the townspeople.
I shall vote to recall Powell and Ferland on March 4.
Bill Hussey, Peru
