It is time to get correct information to citizens of Peru before the March 4 recall vote.

Problems could have been avoided after the June 2012 vote. Chairman Tim Holland should have upheld the ordinance and made Kathy Hussey choose either her selectman position or her secretary position. Period.

At the Feb. 19 hearing, important information was pointed out. The public hearing was held with an outside moderator. Dick Powell addressed Town Clerk Vera Parent, saying Parent overstepped her authority (bypassing the selectmen) by bringing in the moderator.

The meeting’s usual procedure changed because of the moderator.

Holland stated that he gave Parent approval before the meeting and agreed with the format. Powell said the entire board should have decided.

Holland didn’t attend the public hearing.

Selectman Laurieann Milligan missed many meetings, yet she made the statement that she “hoped the educated voters will come out to the referendum. Those who attend meetings get upset if they don’t like a decision we make or the color of our shirt.” That insults citizens.

Powell and Ed Ferland are two selectmen who consistently vote in the town’s best interests. Neither were involved in recalls; neither signed petitions.

Holland and Hussey started retaliatory petitions on Ferland and Powell.

Records show that when Ferland and Powell voted in the town’s best interests, they were out-voted or the vote was 2-2, which accomplished nothing.

I support keeping Ferland and Powell and recalling the others. The town needs people who want to work in the town’s best interests.

Peru needs to move forward.
