Working in different mediums and styles, each artist brings an individual perspective on the ghostly qualities of the human face — from fantastical portraiture to digital generation of virtual individuals.

The artistic collaborators include Al Crichton, James Fangbone, Juliet Karelsen, Martha Miller, R. Henry Nigl, Abby Shahn and Barbara Sullivan. Painter and exhibition organizer Shahn wrote, “I was looking at an old photo, a picture of a guy looking for evidence of specters and documenting the results. I realized that all photographs, all drawings and paintings of people are evidence of specters.”

The UMF Art Gallery is located at 246 Main Street behind the admissions office. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Sundays noon to 4 p.m. and by appointment. For more information, email maline@maine.edu or call 207-778-7002.
