BIDDEFORD — Senior Tyler Thomas scored three consecutive goals to break a 3-3 tie in the first period, and the University of New England went on to take a 12-8 win over the University of Southern Maine in non-conference men’s lacrosse action Thursday.
Sophomore Dan O’Gorman scored a match-high four goals to lead the way for the Nor’easters (2-0). Thomas finished with a hat-trick and junior Mike Allan added a pair of scores. Goalkeeper Jay Letendre stopped 12 shots in the win.
For Southern Maine (0-3), Kayle Hamilton tallied three goals, while Kyle Baker notched two markers. Zach Blauvelt and Dylan Kenney had seven ground balls apiece for the Huskies. Ryan Jurgelevich had 12 saves in goal for USM.

St. Joseph’s 6
PORTLAND — Saint Joseph’s (1-2) suffered a 17-6 setback at the hands of Plymouth State University (1-0) in non-conference men’s lacrosse action on Thursday night.
The contest was close early as the visiting-Panthers held a slim 4-2 lead heading into the second quarter, but Plymouth (1-0) managed to net eight unanswered goals en route to a 12-2 cushion and eventual 11-goal victory.
Chris Annunciata tallied four goals and an assist to lead the Panthers. Shawn McEvoy added a hat trick, while Brett Miller and Aaron Boss netted two goals apiece. Zach Frank had a goal and five assists. Jesse Kutz and Bobby Noonan combined to make four saves in goal. Jake Ricciardi and Andrew Sulivan led the Monks with two goals apiec. Christopher Driscoll stopped 12 shots for St. Joe’s.

GORHAM — Freshman Sarah Pelligrinelli scored a game-high five goals as the University of Southern Maine Huskies pulled away in the second half to defeat the visiting University of New England Nor’easters, 18-13, in non-conference women’s lacrosse action Thursday
Lauren Santo added four goals and two assists for the Huskies (2-0). Rosie Forster added three goals and passed out two assists, and Jenna Cyr chipped in two goals and two assists. Samantha Purcell and Jacki Kelly each had a goal and two assists. Goalie Kim Vogel registered 10 saves to earn her second win of the season.
Hannah Tavella led the Nor’easters (0-2) netting four goals and passing out one assist.
