DIXFIELD — The Board of Selectmen on Monday will discuss the possibility of developing written ethics and rules to guide them in their work.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. March 11 at the Ludden Library.

According to Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky, other boards of selectmen have adopted a set of ethics, and at this meeting “several examples will be passed out and investigated by the board.”

“I think they’re going to look at other towns and see how they’re policing themselves,” Skibitsky said. “Afterward, they’ll decide if they want to adopt something for the town.”

Skibitsky said the purpose of the guidelines will be for the board to have something “a little more official,” because there is nothing in writing for them to follow.

In other business, the board will also discuss what to do with an empty lot at the intersection of Routes 2 and 17 in East Dixfield.

The property, which burned to the ground Jan. 14 after an electrical fire, belongs to resident Allen Cobb, and, according to Skibitsky, he approached selectmen to ask if there was anything they want to do with it.

“As of right now, we’re just going to discuss the offer,” Skibitsky said. “I’m not sure if we’ll actually do anything with it, but we’ll at least try to figure it out.”

The board will also discuss the possibility of updating the phone systems for the Town Office and the town garage.
