LEWISTON — Trinh Burpee will be nominated as the newest member of the Lewiston School Committee Tuesday, filling the Ward 3 spot previously held by Eugene Dumont.

Mayor Robert E. Macdonald has nominated Burpee for the position. She will serve for the remainder of Dumont’s term — which ends this November — once she has been confirmed by the Lewiston City Council.

“I’ve always wanted to be on the Lewiston School Committee, as the children of Lewiston mean a lot to me, and their education is my priority,” Burpee said in a news release issued Friday. “I would like to set an example for Lewiston children and help provide them with the best education possible. Anything my community needs, I am there.”

Burpee has served on the Lewiston Planning Board since 2007 and previously served on the Parish Council of St. Patrick’s Church. She also regularly volunteers at Lewiston’s Farwell Elementary School.

She and her husband own the local Albert and Burpee Funeral Home, and they reside in Lewiston with their two children.

Lewiston School Committee Chairman Jim Handy praised the nomination of Trinh Burpee.

“Trinh and her family have a long tradition of service to the people of Lewiston,” Handy said in a written statement. “She will be a thoughtful contributing member of the Lewiston School Committee.”
