AUBURN — A Lewiston man was arrested and his juvenile male relative released to his mother following an attempted copper theft.

According to Lt. Scott Watkins of the Auburn Police Department, several officers were dispatched to Schnitzer Northeast at 522 Washington St., at 4:15 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a tripped burglar alarm.

Watkins said officers quickly set up a perimeter around the building before entering the scrap metal business. Inside, officers found Eric Greenwood, 30, of 75 Howe St., Lewiston, and a juvenile relative of Greenwood attempting to leave the building with scrap copper.

Greenwood was charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. The juvenile was released into the care of his mother.

Watkins credited officers Denis Mathews, Bernie Westleigh and Andrew Shute for making the arrest.
