“I hope that the new city government in Lewiston will elect a chemist for milk inspector,” says a citizen who is interested in seeing a good milk supply. “It is one of the most important positions in the city, for it concerns the health of the people. More attention should be paid to the selection of a man who is qualified to pass upon the samples he takes and will enforce the law without fear or favor. It is one office, above all others, that should be taken out of politics.”

Engine8 answered the call and firemen quickly extinguished the smoky blaze. Wiring had apparently caught fire and spread to insulation material inside the engine compartment.

The day J.M. Paradis decides to move, chances are everyone in town will know it. Paradis is planning to move a two-and-one-half story building at 67 Howe St. to a vacant lot at 112-114 Shawmut St. While the move is only about 900 feet, Paradis has found that trying to pick up a four-unit apartment building and move it within inner city neighborhoods is easier said than done. At issue in his request for permission from the City Council is whether Paradis or two public utilities should foot the bill for cutting wires and moving utility poles. Paradis yesterday referred to a common law right that entitles him to “free and available” access to public streets.
