POLAND — The Poland Players will present the timeless musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14 through Saturday, March 16 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17.
The show is a rollicking, raucous journey through medieval times when knights are daring and ladies demure and everyone wants to live happily ever after. But in this clever adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s story of the princess and the pea, happily ever after may not happen until Prince Dauntless can find a wife — one who is acceptable to his mother.
But no one in the kingdom may get married until the prince does, and since the Queen has already rejected 12 princesses, finding a bride for the Prince is a great challenge. The situation plays out with a fun score by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson.
Performances will be at the Dr. Robert Wall Theatre, Poland Regional High School, 1457 Maine St. Tickets are $8 for adults; $6 for students and seniors. For more information, call 998-5400 ex 457 or email [email protected].
