NEW GLOUCESTER — Ruth A. Lewis, 95, of New Gloucester, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 10.
She was born Feb. 12, 1918, in South Portland, a daughter of the late Alburton N. and Faustina E. (Larrabee) Westman. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, Class of 1935, and Vinal Regional Technical School of Practical Nursing in Connecticut in 1966.
She was employed at nursing homes in Maine and Connecticut for many years. She was married in 1937 in Orono to Carleton Lewis. She and her husband resided in Connecticut for 24 years before returning to Maine in 1976. Carleton passed away in 1987.
Ruth loved crocheting, creating several unique works of art including Christmas stockings and ornaments.
She is survived by her son, Larry Lewis and his wife, Wilda Rose, of New Gloucester; son-in-law, John Belniak of Connecticut; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Derek and Catherine Lewis, Miranda Lewis Sepulveda, Anne Galanto, Brenda Michanczyk and Jean Belniak; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Joanne Westman and Charlene Pavich; several great-nephews and nieces; and one last surviving schoolmate from her class of 1935, Edna Webber.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carleton Lewis; daughter, Carlene Belniak; brothers, Fred and Raymond; and sister, Muriel.
