Whether there is a haunted house on Lowell street, Lewiston, is a question that has been puzzling a number of people of late. Mysterious rappings have been heard in a certain house on that street for nearly a week and for a time the occupants were much disturbed. These rappings always occurred at night, sometime continuing past two o’clock in the morning. What made the affair especially mysterious was the fact that the rappings always seemed to come from the room where a young girl in the house happened to be. One tenant of the house told a Lewiston Journal reporter that she thought it was snow or water dropping from the roof.

Burglars who broke into the YWCA building on East Ave., Lewiston, early this morning seemed more interested in causing damage than searching for valuables. The culprits stole about $200 cash, but it was the malicious vandalism that concerned YWCA officials. Ceiling tiles were torn down, staff lockers pried open, restroom mirrors broken, fire extinguishers damaged, soap dispensers ripped from the wall and water poured into office drawers.
