Pond building, maintenance

FARMINGTON — A workshop from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 2, in room C23 at the University of Maine at Farmington will address how to build a new pond or renovate an existing one for stocking fish, or for wildlife, or just to enhance property.

Answering questions will be Candi Gilpatric, a civil engineer for more than 20 years with the Maine Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Bobby Van Riper from the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife service.

Each participant will leave with their own “Ponds – Planning, Design, Construction” handbook and a certificate of participation, plus new knowledge about ponds.

Preregistration is required by April 1. The cost is $20 through March 20 and $25 after that date. Eaton Church pork supper

LIVERMORE FALLS — Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church will hold a roast pork supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Menu will include roast pork, mashed potatoes, vegetables, applesauce, rolls and homemade pies.

Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for for children under 12. Proceeds will benefit church activities.

Hospice Volunteer training set

JAY — No matter who you are, you’ve got something to offer to hospice patients. Typically the needs are simple – companionship and friendship, emotional support, someone to listen – but the small things you do make an enormous difference in someone’s life.

Beacon Hospice will offer free 22 hour Hospice Volunteer Training at Spruce Mountain Adult and Community Education, 13 Community Drive, on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. from April 2 to May 21.

Pancakes, sugaring

LIVERMORE — A pancake breakfast and old-time maple sugaring will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Road.

The cost is $6/$8 for pancakes and sausage; otherwise free.

Come experience a late winter ritual done the old-fashioned way at a 19th-century living history farm. In celebration of Maine Maple Sunday, the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will serve pancakes and sausage in the historic farmer’s cottage. Sap boiling demonstrations take place in the Sugar House. Visitors can help tap trees and collect sap.

Bring snowshoes or sleds.
