PORTLAND — Robert C. Webber, 74, of Farmingdale, passed away on March 13, in Portland, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Gardiner, Aug. 31, 1938, the son of Ralph Webber and Mary (Levine) Webber.

Bob graduated from Gardiner High School in 1956. He went on to receive his bachelor degree in education from the University of Maine at Orono in 1960. While at Orono, Bob played baseball, football and was a member of Kappa Sigma.

He honorably served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He obtained a master degree in education from the University of Southern Maine in 1975.

Bob was a physical education teacher for the Gardiner school system for most of his 37 year career. He coached baseball and football at Gardiner, Oxford Hills and Hall-Dale.

As head football coach at Hall-Dale, Bob led the team to win the 1979 State Championship. A loyal sports fan, Bob followed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Bob also enjoyed playing golf and tennis and spending time with his family.

Surviving is his wife, Julie T. (Thibodeau) Webber of Farmingdale; three daughters, Darlene Vigue and Sherri Webber, both of Farmingdale and Kelly Webber of Charlestown, Mass.; one grandson, Derek Vigue of Hallowell; and one cousin, Richard Webber of Bullhead City, Ariz.
