“Kids come up to us in tears after shows sometimes,” Katherine Veayo said, “and we know how they feel and wish other kids didn’t have to feel that way.”

The Veayo Twins, from Winthrop, are only juniors at Hall-Dale High School, but they are well on their way as rising stars in New England’s jam-packed musical landscape. Just nominated by The New England Music Awards for “Best in State,” they are the only Maine band performing live at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at Lowell Memorial Auditorium, Lowell, MA.

With over 100 gigs in the past 36 months, these teens have burst onto a live music scene typically only occupied by adults. They didn’t cut their teeth with songs written for them. Kristen Veayo has been the artistic guiding force from the beginning, and both her songwriting and full-bodied delivery suggest an old soul. “A Game We Play” is a unique creation that combines pop, straight-ahead rock, gutty R-and-B and a little country with an inspirational message targeting the pain and alienation that teens face in today’s culture, including bullying and other traumatic experiences.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13 the New England Music Awards will be televised live at NeMusicAwards.com. WUML 91.5FM in Lowell will simulcast it on wuml.org. Tickets are also available at the NEMA website. The next RSBAB benefit show by The Veayo Twins is at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9 at Portland Elks Lodge with the X-Factor sensation, Jillian Jensen.
