JAY — The state Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting Thursday on proposed improvements to about 1.25 miles of routes 4 and 17. It will be the second phase of the road reconstruction process.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Spruce Mountain High School North Campus in Jay.

The state is proposing to reconstruct the road from Pineau Street north to just south of Tweedie Street.

In 2011 and 2012, the state reconstructed about 1.1 miles of routes 4 and 17 from Bridge Street in Livermore Falls to Pineau Street in Jay. Both towns also had new sewer lines installed, and the Livermore Falls Water District had new water lines installed.

The Livermore Falls Water District plans to install new water lines to where its system ends just south of Community Drive where the schools are. The Jay Village Water District will also install lines from where the Livermore Falls district stops. The town of Jay plans to review the conditions of its sewer lines and will determine what they need to have done while the construction project is ongoing.

The state’s portion of this next phase was estimated in 2012 to cost about $3.2 million. The project was also tentatively scheduled to begin in late 2013 and continue into 2014.
