JAY — The Brochu and DiPasquale families of Jay will participate for the first time in the Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation’s annual Ski-A-Thon Fundraiser at Sunday River Resort on Saturday, March 23.
All three children just finished their second season with Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation’s adaptive skiing program at Sugarloaf Mountain. Team Josh, Olivia and Brooke are fundraising for the program that allows them to be able to experience the sport of skiing with their special needs children, Josh Brochu, 10, Olivia DiPasquale, 5, Brooke Brochu, 7.
The free program allows people of varying abilities and ages to participate in sports year-round. Just one and a half years after learning to walk, skiing has helped improve Olivia’s balance and coordination, and all three children have gained confidence, independence, ski with smiles and look forward to the next lesson.
Activities at the Ski-A-Thon will take place all day long. There will be games and entertainment, including a fun race, costume contest, an obstacle course hosted by the Parrot Head Club of Maine, an activities tent with demos of adaptive equipment and kids’ arts and crafts.
People are invited to take part in the fundraiser by starting a team and earning a free ski pass for the day of the event, a breakfast, lunch, and dinner, an event T-shirt and incentive prizes.
Those wishing may fundraise as a virtual skier or make a tax deductible donation to Team Josh, Olivia and Brooke at www.maineadaptive.org/current-teams.php and selecting Team “Our J.O.B.”
