FARMINGTON — Ryan Morgan was elected chairman of the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday with three votes, over Jessica Berry, who received two.
Morgan, Andrew Hufnagel and Joshua Bell voted for Morgan; Dennis Pike and Berry voted for Berry.
Hufnagel was elected vice chairman with three votes from Morgan, Bell and Hufnagel, over two for Berry from her and Pike.
The board unanimously elected Pike as secretary.
Selectmen welcomed Bell to the board. Morgan called him an asset to the board and the town.
Bell said he was honored to be elected and his intent is to be a good steward of taxpayers’ money.
Morgan thanked former Chairman Stephan Bunker, who lost his bid for re-election Monday, and was in the audience Tuesday night.
“He’s a great mentor to me and all of us,” Morgan said. “He’s done a lot of great things for the town of Farmington. He’s a tough act to follow.”
Bunker told the board he was willing to volunteer his services on a committee or board in the future.
Morgan also thanked Town Manager Richard Davis and his staff for making the annual town meeting Monday one of the smoothest. Everything was well explained, providing for a good meeting with opportunities for both sides to speak, he said.
Davis thanked those who attended and voiced their opinions during the meeting. It was an earnest showing representing the will of the people and the people have spoken, he said.
Hufnagel welcomed Bell to the board, reading a statement that urged the board to continue efforts and practices to help the town run smoothly, he said.
A workshop on the Farmington Downtown Development Plan was postponed Tuesday due to the storm. It was rescheduled for 4 p.m. April 9 at the Municipal Building.
The board went into executive session for discussion of a Police Department personnel matter.
