SOUTH PARIS — Sandra Lee Brown, 72, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 17, in South Paris.

She was born in Stoneham, Nov. 28, 1940, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy McKeen. She attended South Paris High School and later completed her GED at OHHS. She later enjoyed taking classes at Bowdoin College.

Sandra worked many years at the Norway Shoe Shop and later completed course work to become a certified nurse’s assistant. She was a CNA for nearly 20 years at Andrews Nursing Home in South Paris. She proudly worked at the West Paris Town Office as a clerk assistant. She was also a volunteer for AWAP (recently renamed Voices) and lastly in her working career she worked for Community Concepts for Senior Companions. Sandra received the 2007 Home Care and Hospice Alliance Volunteer of the year award presented to her by Gov. John Baldacci.

Sandra enjoyed her six children and her many grandchildren and was proud to recently become a great-grandmother. She had pride in her children and how they turned out and liked having bragging rights about her kids and grandkids. Sandra was very honored to have many great friends where she resided at Hillside Terrace.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, painting, shopping, genealogy, going to yard sales and sewing over the years, where she made her children’s clothes when they were young. She enjoyed ALL of the holidays and especially enjoyed Christmas, where she searched for the perfect gift year round. She prided herself on selecting just the right gift for her many children and grandchildren. Sandra enjoyed decorating for all the holidays in both her home and also the common areas at Hillcrest Apartments.

She was known for always having a full candy dish for others to enjoy. Sandra’s children remember their Mother for taking pride in being witty and always having a limerick ready to roll off her lips. It was not uncommon to hear her telling stories with great enthusiasm and many details. She was not the “cookie cutter soccer mom,” as she was always known for thinking outside the box; always proud of her uniqueness and never lived with any regrets. It saddened her that she lost so many of her peers and friends, and thought of them often over the years.

She is survived by her beloved children, Teresa Curtis of Oxford, Marilyn Swan and husband, James, of Bethel, Connie Bergen and partner, Star Waisenen, of Kennebunk, Bob Brown and his wife, Jenna, of Poland, Suzanne Atkinson and husband, Michael, of Cornville and Natalie Brown of New Hampshire; 18 grandchildren, Melissa Ostrowski and husband, Paul, Bion Swan and companion, Megan Daye, Kyle Curtis and fiancee, Kristen Brown, Mike Swan and wife, Danielle, Sarah Swan, Adam Curtis, Peter Brown and companion, Audrey Baril, Tyler Curtis, Becky Brown, Christopher Pike, Katie Coombs, Zachary Pike, Allison Coombs, Jacob Coombs, Chance Brown, Tyler, Garret and Ben; two great-grandchildren, Henry Ostrowski and Sydney Swan; nieces, Marjorie, Beverly and Donna; and special friends, Linnet, Muriel and Judy.

She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Dorothy McKeen; brother, Fred McKeen; and son-in-law, Craig Curtis.

Her family expresses their gratitude for the kind, compassionate care from the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and Oxford Hills Family Medicine and to Rose, her personal care provider who she thought the world of. The family would also like to thank the residents of Hillside Terrace for showing great kindness, support and love over the last several years.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
