DIXFIELD — The RSU 10 Superintendent Search Committee on Wednesday appointed six of 13 people to a committee to interview candidates.
Search Committee Co-chairman Jerry Wiley said six school directors, four administrators, two teachers and one other staff member will serve on the Interview Committee.
Superintendent Tom Ward submitted his resignation, effective June 30. He will become superintendent of RSU 9 in Farmington on July 1.
Board members on the Interview Committee are Wiley of Buckfield, Barbara Chow of Dixfield, Maida Demers-Dobson of Buckfield, Faith Campbell of Canton, Betty Barrett of Mexico and one other to be named.
Search Committee Co-chairwoman Gloria Jenkins, who is assistant superintendent and curriculum coordinator, will be on the Interview Committee. The other administrators, teachers and support staff member may be named at the RSU 10 board meeting Monday, March 25, at Dirigo Elementary School in Peru.
Also at Wednesday afternoon’s meeting, Wiley said the committee decided to advertise in newspapers for two weekends, as well as on the online educators’ website, ServingSchools.com.
Wiley said the Maine School Management Association had sent cover letters and a brochure describing the open position to all superintendents and assistant superintendents in the state.
Also during the two-hour meeting, the Search Committee developed questions for candidates.
Plans are to have a new superintendent on Aug. 1.
The next Search Committee meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at the RSU 10 Central Office. It is not open to the public, but anyone with questions about the process or with specific characteristics they’d like to see in the person can contact Wiley, or the RSU 10 Central Office at 564-7254.
“We hope we have a good number of qualified candidates,” Wiley said.
The district includes the towns of Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Peru, Buckfield, Hartford, Sumner, Byron, Mexico, Roxbury, Rumford and Hanover.
