Golde (Colleen Mahan) moans, “You could die from such a man!” as Tevye (Rick Messana) tries to impart his own brand of wisdom during MCP’s production of Fiddler on the Roof.

MONMOUTH — Monmouth Community Players will present “Fiddler on the Roof” from April 12- 21 at Cumston Hall. The drama revolves around Tevye (played by Rick Messana), a milkman living in the Russian village of Anatevka in 1905, as he tries to maintain his family and Jewish traditions while outside influences invade their lives. He is aided by his sharp-tongued wife Golde (Colleen Mahan), and hindered by the strong-willed actions of his three eldest daughters, Tzeitel (Buffy Dumont), Hodel (Emily Trefethen), and Chava (Sarah Record). Throughout it all, their love and faith sustains them.

Directed by Raymond Fletcher, with musical direction by Brad Howard, this highly popular musical is based on a story by Sholem Aleichem. The music is by Jerry Bock, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein. It is one of the longest running shows on Broadway. The story is propelled by some of the most familiar songs in Broadway history: “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “To Life,” and “Far From the Home I Love.”

The supporting cast includes Jackie McDonald as Yente, Jeff Fairfield as Motel, Justin Knaus-Tucker as Perchik, Andrew Salisbury as Fyedka, Ray Fletcher as Lazar Wolf, and, as villagers and Russians, Jefferey Ahlquist, Kathi Asquith, Greg Basinet, Eli Christman, Chris Dumont, Barbara Enman, Cameron Gelder, Elaine Hanish, Adria Hughes, Brian MacDonald, David Marshall, Tommy Norris, Gregor Smith, Andy Tolman, Emma Vierling, John Webb, Emmeline Willey, Brandon Wright, Natalie Young. In the orchestra pit is Kent Ackley as the fiddler, Rebecca Lazure on clarinet, and Kerstin Schkrioba on drums.
