FARMINGTON — A Livermore Falls man pleaded guilty Friday to breaking into the lodge of Titcomb Mountain in Farmington in March 2012 and taking cash and radios and to taking radios and using a municipal bulldozer at Spruce Mountain Ski Slope in Jay in November 2012.
Ronald J. Davis II, 23, pleaded guilty to one count each of theft by unauthorized use and theft by unauthorized taking in the Jay case. He pleaded guilty to felony burglary in the Farmington case.
Felony charges of burglary and theft and a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge in the cases were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
If the Titcomb Mountain case had gone to trial, a staff member would have testified that when she arrived at work she saw that someone had kicked in a door to an office, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said.
Farmington police officers would also testify that nearly $670 cash and four portable radios and chargers were stolen, he said. The total value was just more than $1,000.
If the Spruce Mountain case went to trial, Bill Nichols, Public Works foreman for the town of Livermore Falls, would have testified that he was notified of the town’s bulldozer being driven up Spruce Mountain, Andrews said.
Spruce Mountain Ski Slope is owned by the towns of Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls.
Nichols would testify that he went to check on the bulldozer and found it at the top of the mountain. He also noticed that the some buildings had been broken into, Andrews said.
Jay police Detective Richard Caton IV would testify that he responded to a call from Nichols and reviewed video surveillance and recognized the person on the video as Davis. He would also testify that portable radios were stolen and were later found by Davis’ father at his home, and he turned them into police, Andrews said.
The plea agreement for sentencing is for four years to the Department of Correction with all but six months suspended, which is the cap of the amount of time he would be required to spend in jail, and two years’ probation.
Another requirement of the agreement is that Davis not return to either of the mountains, he said.
Justice Michaela Murphy found Davis guilty and set a sentence hearing for April 26.
