Mother Nature continues to foil global warming alarmists’ rants. Digging out of 20 inches of “global warming” snow on the first day of spring, I recalled a recent Sun Journal article titled, “Earth is warming faster than it has in 11,000 years” by Phil Plait of Slate.
Plait wrote, “Global warming is real. Let’s get that out of the way right at the start. Climatologist Michael Mann’s bombshell study from years back created the ‘hockey stick’ graph, showing that in the past century the Earth’s overall temperature spiked, like a case of planetary flu.”
The fact is that the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change dropped Michael Mann’s “hockey stick” from the summary for policymakers for its 2007 report. Respected Canadian environmental writer Lawrence Solomon explains why in Chapter 2 (“The Case of the Disappearing Hockey Stick”) of his 2008 book, “The Deniers.” A 2005 Congress brought in expert statisticians who reviewed Mann’s computer modeling. Upon correcting serious statistical flaws, the “hockey stick” curve disappeared.
Solomon continues to write columns for his Canadian Financial Post newspaper. He posted a simple graph showing the temperature changes of the past 15 years in proper perspective, using figures from the most prestigious of all official temperature records, compiled by the UK Met Office and its Hadley Centre. His result showed virtually no change, no hockey stick-shaped spike.
