FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will host a 5K/10K Kids Fun Run on Sunday, April 28, in downtown Farmington to benefit programming that aims to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts.

Registration on the day of the event begins at 7:30 a.m., but pre-registration is encouraged.

“This is the second annual 5K/10K race,” said Renee Blanchet, executive director of the agency. “Last year, we had a fantastic turnout and are looking forward to another great race this year. This year’s proceeds will help provide community education programming in Franklin County, including school-based violence prevention education in our Bullying Prevention Program.”

Participants can register online at www.active.com, using keywords “Run to Prevent Child Abuse” in order to sign up for the run of their choice.

The pre-registration cost for adults is $20 for the 5K run and $30 for the 10K. You also may register on the day of the race for an additional $2.

The first 50 registrants will receive free running shirts. Additional running shirts will be available for purchase on the day of the event.

All ages are welcome to participate in the 5K, but no pets, skateboards, inline skates or bicycles are allowed on the course. T-shirts will be available for all runners at the event. In order to keep runners and walkers hydrated, the course will provide two water stations.

Participants of the 5K/10K can prepay by credit card online or with cash or check on the day of the race. Checks should be made payable to the FCCTF.

Registration and check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. the day of the race at the FCCTF office on 113 Church St., Farmington.
