SCARBOROUGH — Alton Oscar Fowler, 82, of Portland, passed away on March 26, peacefully in his sleep.

Alton Fowler was born in Webster, Aug. 14, 1930. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1948. He joined the Army and served for 14 months during the Korean War in 1950 to 1951 in the Media Maintenance Wheeled Vehicle division, where he worked as a mechanic.

Alton was married to Mary Fowler (Sferes) in June 1976; they were married for almost 37 years.

Alton drove trucks for Hannaford Brothers for more than 40 years. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and the outdoors — especially fishing trips with his sons and camping.

Alton Fowler is survived by his loving wife, Mary Fowler; his sons, Donald and Larry Fowler; his daughters, Pamela Kelley and Deborah Fowler; his niece, Raylene Chenowth; his stepdaughters, Susan Snyder, Kathy Plamann and Kim Bathory; as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
