TURNER –  Route 4 was partially closed late Wednesday after vehicles collided near the Auburn line.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department was investigating the 10 p.m. crash that caused at least one injury.

A witness said one car, heavily damaged, came to rest in the middle of the roadway. Several other cars were parked at the side of the road along with the cab of an 18-wheeler.

It remained unclear early Thursday how many vehicles were involved in the wreck. The names of those involved were not immediately available.

Police blocked off three lanes of traffic as fire and rescue crews responded. The investigation was expected to continue into Thursday morning.
