Central Maine Falcons 13U AAU baseball team goes 1-3 in New York tournament
YAPHANK, N.Y. — The Central Maine Falcons 13U AAU baseball team competed in the Baseball Heaven Pre-Season Bash Tourney against teams from New York and Connecticut.
Their first game of the weekend was against the Baseball Heaven White team from Yaphank. Falcons starter Josh Joy pitched three strong innings, striking out three and allowing only one hit. In the top of the fourth inning however, the floodgates opened. The Falcons scored six times, aided by hits from Ryan Emery, Damien St.Pierre, John Henry, and John Blodgett. Baseball Heaven White battled back in the bottom of the inning for three runs of their own to make it 8-3. The Falcons were kept off the scoreboard in the 6th inning. Baseball Heaven White found their bats in the bottom of the inning scoring six times on only two hits and three costly Falcon errors to take the win 9-8.
The Falcons next contest was against the CP Stars from Connecticut The Stars flexed their experience early, scoring four runs (one earned) on three hits and two errors. The Falcons scored a run of their own on hits by John Blodgett and Noah Bonsant to make it 4-1. Errors again led to two more Stars runs in the second despite no hits. The Falcons found their rhythm in the fourth inning, tying the score at six on hits by Austin Gilboe, Gavyn Jones, and a triple by Nate Goodine. The Stars rallied back for two in the bottom half to make it 8-6. They added 5 more off Falcon relievers in the fifth inning to salt away the 13-6 win.
The Falcons were forced to play in the play-in game vs USC Knights of Connecticut in order to advance. The Knights struck early for two runs off Falcons pitcher Josh Joy. In the top of the third, the Falcons found their bats scoring five runs on hits by Henry, Colby Dexter, Bonsant, and Emery. Nate Howard took over on the hill for the Falcons and shut down the Knights in the third & fourth. In the fifth, John Blodgett and Noah Bonsant struck again for the Falcons, plating two more runs for a 7-2 lead. The Knights were relentless though, adding two of their own to make it 7-4. Nick Lombardi & Goodine each had hits in the two-run 6th for the Falcons. Jones came on to close out the inning for Maine and gave up only one run. Final score was 9-5 Falcons
The win advanced the Falcons to a meeting with the Bellport Braves (N.Y.). The Braves got on the board early, scoring three in the bottom of the first to go up 3-0. Maine fought back for a run in the second. Bellport duplicated the feat in their half to make the score 4-1. Dexter doubled to open the Falcons fourth and later scored, 4-2 Braves. Emery then pitched a 1-2-3 inning for the Falcons. The bats heated up for Maine in the fifth when they scored three on a couple walks and hits by Goodine & Damien St.Pierre to take the lead 5-4. Bellmont then stuck quickly for six runs on three hits and two walks to put the game in the bag. They would then go on to win the tournament, going 5-0 along the way.
They continue their pre-season on April 13th and 14th in New Hampshire against Litchfield and Hampton.
Oxford Baseball/Softball Regisration
OXFORD — Oxford baseball and softball registration will be held Thursday, April 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 6 from 10:30 a.m. 12 p.m. at the Station House Community Center (old fire station).
Participation ages for T-Ball are 5-6 as of April 1. Baseball 7-15 as of April 30 and Softball 7-18 as of Jan 1.
Registration fees are $25 for a single player or S60 for a family of three or more which includes a cap.
